Cheese in the trap is a 2016 Korean drama that has been adapted from a webtoon with the same title. This drama is just different and portrays the depth of human emotions through a simple story.

Cheese in the trap is about a young University girl, Hong Seol (Kim Go-Eun) and her complicated relationship with her senior, Yoo Jung (Park Hae-Jin). Hong Soel is from a poor background, she makes a lot of sacrifices for her brother who is studying in the United States.  She is, however, a good student, she struggles hard to keep her scholarship. She is also known to be very kind and soft.

Yoo Jung is the model student of the university. He is handsome, kind, smart and rich. Everything seems to be perfect for him but that is far from the truth. He is a young man who fears that everyone approaches him for his or her personal gain. He has a dark side that unknown to most people.

Hong Soel accidentally sees it and everything changes. She fears and distrusts him and he is also bent on frustrating her.

There is another twist when Yoo Jung starts to be nice to Seol. Their relationship takes a slow process to build up.

Cheese in the trap is a realistic drama. You find yourself identifying with the characters in the drama. I love that there is so much suspense. Why Yoo Jung and In Ho have this extreme hate relationship, why Yoo Jung sometimes has this cold and scary look in his eyes, and what Yoo Jung’s true intentions are when it comes to Seol.

The chemistry between Yoo Jung and Hong Seol is deabak and they seem to complement each other even though they do not understand each other’s feeling very well.

Some viewer’s argued that this drama lost its way along the line but I beg to differ. I do not think there is a defined path when it comes to human relationships in the first place. Also, the drama just happens to be unpredictable and unique.

The ending…, well, I was expecting some kind of emotional show, a reunion, that will birth some super romantic lines. Nothing of that sort happened but that does not make it less of an ending. At least, we know they were together at the end. That is enough I guess.

All in all, it was a great show. Worth watching. However, a better ending could have made is a much better show.

One thing I learned from this drama is, “learn to cope with everyone. Everyone has that back story you do not know about. Trying to understand people makes the world an easier place to live in”.
